Greensands is located on the edge of the village of East Hendred, A picturesque village nestled at the foot of the Berkshire downs and a wonderful gateway through which to explore the Ridgeway and the surrounding open countryside. The village of East Hendred itself has won many awards for it's beauty and is a mix of architecture running back though time with an abundance of thatched cottages and timber framed buildings. It also boasts three public houses who all serve food, a village shop and Post Office along with a church with a faceless clock!

If you want to search a little further afield the following are places worth a visit.
Wantage - This is the nearest town and has a bustling town centre with many of the better known High Street Stores.
Abingdon - The town of Abingdon again has many interesting places to visit and is situated a few miles downstream from Oxford alongside the River Thames.
Didcot Railway Centre - A working railway museum that allows you to wander through various old locomotives from the past with frequent Steam Days when you can actually have a short ride on a steam train - great for kids.
White Horse Hill - An ancient bronze age settlement situated on top of the largest hill in the area with the famous chalk white horse carved on it's Northern side. Fantastic views over the surrounding countryside.
Lambourn Gallops - An early start to the downs near to the famous horse racing village of Lambourn will allow you to watch the training of racehorses on the various gallops to be found on the top of the Ridgeway.
Hendred Vineyard - East Hendred actually has two vineyards and one of them makes their own wines.
Lains Barn - A popular venue for weddings, trade fairs and exhibitions.
Waylands Smithy - An ancient burial barrow near to White Horse Hill.

The Eyston Arms - A beautiful country pub with first class food and beers. Booking advised.
The Wheatsheaf - Yet another quaint country pub renowned for it's food. Very pretty. Not such a large drinking area though but a nice garden.
The Plough - Great value pub with hearty meals and live sports TV.
The Hare - A mile or so towards Wantage. Enormous portions and good pub food. Large bar area and outside area.
